Grayson Greer, 86, of Berryville, died June 23 at his home after a lengthy illness.
A graveside service will be held at Shenandoah Memorial Park on June 26 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. William K. Dawson officiating.
Mr. Greer was born on February 20, 1922 in Newark, Del., the son of James Henry Greer and Carrie Keely Greer. He was a graduate of Newark High School and served in the 12th Corps of Patton's Third Army in the European Theater during World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He managed Audley Farm for more than 30 years before retiring in 1987.
He married Mildred Takach Greer in 1946, who preceded him in death earlier this year. He is survived by three sons, Grayson Arthur Greer and wife Karen of Arden, N.C., Gar Greer of Winchester, and Jeffrey Scott Greer of Bagdad, Ky., as well as a grandson, Grayson Arthur Greer, Jr.
Mr. Greer was a well known horseman who enjoyed bird hunting, dogs, horses and his many friends and associates. He was a member of the Duncan Memorial Methodist Church in Berryville, VA. He was also a member of the Treadwell Masonic Lodge #213 and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, James “Huck” Greer and Charles Greer, and sisters, Virginia Lamborn, Marie Hall and Esther Fong.
